The Barberton Ohio Works has served as Babcock & Wilcox’s corporate headquarters and principal boiler manufacturing complex since 1904, when the company relocated its main fabrication operations from New Jersey to a large greenfield site in Summit County. Through the twentieth century, the Barberton campus produced watertube utility boilers, marine boilers, package boilers, and pressure-vessel components for U.S. and export markets, and grew into one of the largest boiler-fabrication complexes in the world at its mid-century peak. Barberton remained a central manufacturing and engineering headquarters through the company’s Chapter 11 filing in 2000 and continues to operate under successor entities today.
